Confidence on the mountain is one of the key factors for a successful adventure – we should have the same level of confidence in our equipment as we do in the people we choose to climb with in the mountains. Salewa developed the Ortles collection based on this principle.
Engineered in close collaboration with mountain guides and professional alpinists, our men’s alpine mountaineering hardshell is made with waterproof and extremely breathable 3-layer GORE-TEX® Pro with strategically-placed GORE-TEX® Pro Stretch panels that bring a whole new level of movement.
The Ortles Ascent Mid Gore-Tex® mountain boot is a solid solution for alpine mountaineers. Its thick suede leather upper, SALEWA® 3F System with steel cables and reinforced TPU rand make it exceptionally robust and durable, while the stiff carbon-loaded nylon fibreglass insole increases stability during activity.
Gabriel Tschurtschenthaler is a mountaineer. He’s also visually impaired and can hardly see, yet he climbed the Ortles as part of a unique team.
The mountains are often described as ‘breathtaking landscapes’. But what if a climber is unable to see the mountains at all. Is it still worth going? What else do the mountains offer beyond their ‘breathtaking’ views?
Gabriel moves steadily, but cautiously. The path winds up through rock and scree. It’s often treacherous and unstable underfoot. Vittorio is two steps ahead, and Matthias follows at a short distance. “Root on the left” Vittorio mumbles. Gabriel nods and immediately adapts his stride to avoid it. Matthias, following up behind, makes sure that they make it safely past the obstacle.
